Reformer Pilates

What is Pilates? Who can do Pilates? What if I have an injury?

Pilates is a form of exercise that fuses the mind with the body to isolate, strengthen, and lengthen all of the muscle groups, however its main focus is on the core, or the “powerhouse” as termed by Joseph Pilates himself.  Pilates training is focused on correct breathing and execution of form and on the development of the core muscles. People who train properly in Pilates find their abdomen’s and backs get toned and strong and even look or become slightly taller. Pilates is a great way to tone without getting bulky.

Anyone can do Pilates at any age, but correct form is essential.  With over 500 traditional exercises, and many newly adapted exercises, you’ll find there’s plenty to keep you challenged, but always a modification or alternative movement to make your workout safe and appropriate for your body.

If you have an injury, it is essential to work either one on one or in a small group atmosphere with a trained instructor.

Alicia Rossi

Alicia started taking Pilates mat classes right after college in 1999.  She was amazed at the difference it made in her body and mind, and soon became a devotee. Soon after, she trained with Laurette Ryan of Balancepoint Pilates and became certified to teach mat Pilates.  She began teaching at various facilities on the south shore while pursuing her career in nursing. In 2002 she trained to instruct on the Pilates reformers, then in 2004 finished up her training on the chair, ladder barrel, and Cadillac. She has been teaching mat on the south shore for 9 years and has been training private clients on all equipment since 2005.  She is a member of the board of directors of the Pilates Circle Network of Massachusetts, a registered nurse at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and is working towards her Pilates Method Alliance certification.
